The voice sounds robotic

Oso Voice speaks with the voices built into your device, and a fresh device usually has only the Standard ones installed. Download a better one once and the app will offer it: open iOS Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak (called Spoken Content on iOS 17 and 18) → Voices → English → your region, then download a voice marked Enhanced or Premium. In Oso Voice, open Settings and choose it.

Settings asks a maths question

That is the caregiver check. It keeps settings from changing by accident during use. A wrong answer gives a new question. It can be turned off inside Settings by someone who manages the app themselves, and it is not a lock: for a real lock, use the device's Guided Access.

Adding your own words and photos

In Settings, open Words and pictures. A caregiver can change any word's picture (including a photo), change what it says, reveal a hidden word, or add a new word to a folder. New words take the next free space and stay there. Nothing already learned moves.

Backup

Oso Voice has no account and no cloud. Your device's own backup (iCloud or a computer) includes the app's words, photos and settings like any other app data, and restoring the device brings them back.
